Thing 40 -- Mashup the web

05/01/2009
hmmm, wheel of lunch?? A good idea considering we're usually trying to figure out where to go for dinner every Friday night! And even though we have numerous places available we always tend to get stuck in a rut and can't think of anywhere so end up at one of our several "usuals". As for lunch, the selection is very limited in this small town I work in -- I drive 20 miles from home to work.

Visual headlines -- this is very cool! A very interesting way to look at the headlines of the day. I clicked on some of the pics and saw many from flickr ... I liked this one titled "tiny teeth".

TimeTube -- another cool mashup tool. I like rocks so I entered "rock" as a keyword. It was interesting to see the results such as: friends rock, rock & roll, rock bottom, kid rock etc.

Walk Score -- I tried my area and only ranked a 5 out of 100 and "must drive" but then I live in a suburban area -- actually my house is built on an old dairy farm field! I also tried the Duluth downtown area and that rated much higher with a 89 out of 100 and "very walkable". I think this would be a useful tool for travel because of the helpful links on the side pointing to such things as libraries, shopping, dining etc.

I liked your choices. "tiny teeth" sure must have been one relaxed cat, none of mine have ever been relaxed enough to get such a good shot of those teeth. I wonder about their "walking" criteria; must be for errands, etc. not just walking for fun. I put mine in Michigan in and got a 0. I live 3 miles from town. You're right about the usefulness for travelers though. I'll have to point my friend Nancy to it for her concert sightseeing gigs.
